Pepperl+Fuchs Asia bags SBR International Business Awards for Electronic Manufacturing

Meet a new kind of factory.

Pepperl+Fuchs Asia Pte. Ltd. won the International Business Awards, Electronic Manufacturing category at the Singapore Business Review International Business Awards 2017.

The project of Pepperl+Fuchs, a pioneer and innovator of industrial sensors for factory automation and an expert for explosion protection in process automation, involves a fully automated conveyor belt equipped with the latest Sensor Technology provided by the company.

It will link the High-Bay Warehouse Racking System, with a Storage Capacity of up to 110,000 trays, to the company's Receiving, Commissioning and Packaging Stations. Each tray with a unique barcode traveling along the conveyor belt from the Receiving station until its final destination, namely the storage bay, will be guided by thousands of Sensors and Barcode Scanners.

Among other features of the project, the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) uses high precision sensor to place the trays using telescopic arms into the High Bay Racking System and will be carried out via a 19 meter high stacker crane that is running fully automated within the aisles. The retrieval capacity is at 70 picks per hour for each of the company's cranes.

Unlike existing ASRS systems, which are typically built next to the manual Pallet Warehouse, the company's ASRS is built on top of the manual pallet warehouse. This unique method of construction was selected to enable the company to maximize on the use of limited space. This mode of construction is the first-of-its-kind, done globally. It is technically challenging as a significant level of engineering expertise is required not only to safely elevate the entire structure above ground, but also to support the force of the stacker cranes when they travel at high speed between the storage aisles.

Their project entitled "Smart Factory – The Integrated System in Action" won the award that was accepted on the company’s behalf by Mr. Juergen Seitz, Managing Director.

The SBR International Business Awards was held on June 8 2017 at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.

This year's nominations were judged by a panel consisting of Ng Jiak See, executive director and head of corporate finance advisory at Deloitte Singapore & Southeast Asia; Choo Eng Chuan, ASEAN markets leader and partner, international and corporate tax services at Ernst & Young Solutions LLP; Toh Kim Teck, assurance partner at Foo Kon Tan LLP; and Henry Tan, managing director at NEXIA TS.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
