Singapore plans blind box rules over gambling concerns

It aims to address gambling inducement risks.

Singapore is drafting regulations to set conditions for the sale of blind box and gacha products, with mandatory and standardised disclosure of odds and probability ranges being considered as part of these measures, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a written reply to Parliament.

MHA and the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) have studied such products and decided to regulate them to better manage gambling inducement risks associated with these offerings.

Mandatory and standardised disclosure of odds and probability ranges will be considered as draft regulations are developed, according to the reply by Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam.

Blind box and gacha products involve consumers paying for items with randomised outcomes without knowing what they will receive in advance.

The Government said the regulations are being drafted and will set out the conditions under which such products may be offered in Singapore.
