TÜV SÜD invests $30m in Singapore decarbonisation centre
Centre will develop digital carbon verification capabilities.
TÜV SÜD has launched a Global Decarbonisation Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore with an investment of more than $30m ($24m), backed by the Singapore Economic Development Board.
The centre will develop digital measurement, reporting, and verification (dMRV) capabilities to produce verification-ready carbon data and support high-integrity carbon markets across Southeast Asia.
It will focus on five areas, namely Article 6 implementation and carbon market regulation; carbon markets and climate assurance; energy transition and energy security; supply chain integrity and industrial decarbonisation; and capacity building.
The CoE will also develop methodologies for nature-based and blue economy projects, amid an estimated US$2.1 trillion financing gap for the regional blue economy through 2030.
“Singapore’s position as a trusted, impartial and internationally connected hub makes it uniquely placed to raise standards for carbon integrity and the clean energy transition across the region," said Ishan Palit, chief operating officer and member of the board, TÜV SÜD AG. "Through this Centre, TÜV SÜD brings independent assurance and digital MRV capabilities together to help turn regional climate ambition into credible, measurable impact."
Singapore is home to about 160 carbon services and trading companies, which will have access to the centre’s expertise and services.
"This Global Decarbonisation CoE marks a valuable addition to Singapore’s carbon services and trading ecosystem, offering deep technical capabilities to help companies in their decarbonisation efforts, while creating good opportunities for our local workforce,” said Png Cheong Boon, chairman, EDB.
By 2030, TÜV SÜD aims to connect project developers, dMRV providers, independent verification bodies and carbon registries across ASEAN through a single digital platform.
The launch coincides with TÜV SÜD PSB’s 20th anniversary in Singapore.
