5G is nigh but only 21% of Singaporean business leaders are ready

Only 21% of Singaporean business leaders said that they were familiar with 5G technology, a Qualcomm study said.

Singaporean business leaders are excited for the 5G rollout, but only a mere 21% said that they are very familiar with this new technology.

This is according to a study commissioned by Qualcomm Technologies, with a respondent pool of 100 Singapore business leaders.

Interest in 5G technology is on the rise in the Lion City, with 74% of business leaders believing that it would make a positive impact on their lives.

However, only 21% said they were very familiar with the new tech, while 43% are only somewhat familiar.

When asked about what they knew about the advantages of 5G technology, 86% cited faster mobile connectivity speeds, 43% said they expect it to drive economic growth, whilst 34% expect the creation of new jobs.

On the other hand, topping the concerns about 5G technology are increased cost of data and individual privacy-related concerns. Some respondents also fear health-related risks and potential job loss.

Around 69% of the respondents believe that 5G will be available to them in two years or less.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
