What Are Escape & Investigation Team Building Games?

Escape and investigation games are immersive, story-driven team challenges where participants must work together under time pressure to complete a shared mission — cracking a code, identifying a criminal, recovering stolen data, or rescuing endangered animals.

Unlike generic icebreakers or trivia nights, these games create genuine high-stakes moments that reveal how a team actually functions: who steps up, who listens, how information gets shared, and how decisions get made when there is no obvious right answer.

Escape games focus on solving a physical or logical challenge within a time limit — opening vaults, cracking codes, navigating a maze.

Investigation games focus on deduction — gathering clues, analysing evidence, and building a case to identify a culprit or locate a target.

Both formats are available in in-person, virtual, and hybrid configurations.

Bank Escape
Bank Escape

1. Bank Escape ® — Singapore

The scenario: Your crew has 90 minutes to break into a bank and open as many vaults as possible — before the police arrive. Three safes, three vaults, multiple routes, and a strategic dilemma at every turn: move too cautiously and you leave empty-handed; take too many risks and you won't escape in time.

What makes it distinctive: The winner is not the team that opens the most vaults — it is the team that opens the most vaults and escapes. Risk management and collective decision-making are baked into the game mechanics. Teams with poor communication consistently over-commit or under-commit, making the debrief particularly revealing for HR and L&D teams.

Logistics:

  • Group size: 10 to 500+
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Format: In-person
  • Venue: Any

→ View Bank Escape details

2. Investigation — Catch The Spy

The scenario: A spy has infiltrated your organisation and stolen a prototype from Nanobot Inc., a biotech company developing nano-scale drug delivery robots. Your team must identify the spy from a list of 10 suspects, locate the time and place of the handover, and intercept the exchange before the prototype is sold to a competitor.

What makes it distinctive: Three sequential investigation stages — identify the suspect, locate the handover, execute the intercept — require teams to share information across sub-groups and build a coherent picture from fragmented clues. Wit, observation, and structured reasoning under time pressure are essential.

Logistics:

  • Group size: 10 to 400+
  • Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours
  • Format: In-person or virtual
  • Venue: Any

→ View Catch The Spy details

3. Team Investigation — Animal Rescue

The scenario: An international crime syndicate is trafficking endangered animals. Your team must locate their warehouse, access the gang leader's computer, and then make a critical strategic choice: go straight for the gang leader (fast but less evidence) or pursue the accountant and lawyer first to build a stronger case (more evidence but less time). Both paths lead to different outcomes.

What makes it distinctive: The branching decision point mid-investigation forces a genuine team debate with no objectively correct answer — mirroring the kind of ambiguous, high-stakes decisions real teams face. This programme also supports a conservation NGO combating animal trafficking when selected — a CSR dimension that resonates with purpose-driven organisations.

Logistics:

  • Group size: 10 to 400+
  • Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours
  • Format: In-person or virtual
  • Venue: Any

→ View Animal Rescue details

4. The Great Cyberhack Challenge

The scenario: Your team has been assembled as an emergency cybersecurity response unit. A series of cyberattacks — phishing attempts, weak password exploits, social engineering tactics — are targeting your organisation's critical systems. You have a limited window to identify the vulnerabilities, neutralise the threats, and secure the network before the breach becomes catastrophic.

What makes it distinctive: Developed with IT and cybersecurity experts, this is the only programme in our portfolio that delivers genuine cyber awareness training through a game format. Participants encounter real-world threat vectors — phishing, credential theft, insider threats — in a context that builds recognition and response instincts rather than passive awareness. Highly relevant for technology, financial services, and government organisations.

Logistics:

  • Group size: 10 to 300+
  • Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours
  • Format: In-person or virtual
  • Venue: Any

→ View Cyberhack Challenge details

5. Historical Hunt — Chinatown

The scenario: Back in 1822, Sir Stamford Raffles rolled out his big plan to shape Singapore’s future. Fast forward 100 years — the Governor throws a grand anniversary bash with the territory's VIPs. But by sunrise, the famous ‘Raffles Town Plan’ is gone! It is now up to you and your team to track down the sneaky culprit and bring the plan back where it belongs. Ready for the chase?

The scenario is fictional but set in historical context.

What makes it distinctive: An in-depth race through Chinatown's shophouses, temples, and market streets, combining historical investigation with creative team challenges. A favourite for teams that want cultural depth alongside the competitive race format.

Logistics:

  • Group size: 10 to 100
  • Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Format: In-person
  • Venue: Singapore Chinatown

→ View programme details

6.Wine Cluedo & Murder Mystery Game

The scenario: A young winemaker has been found dead in his French wine cellar. The police suspect foul play. Two bottles of wine — one red, one white — are the key to understanding what happened. Your team must analyse the wines, interrogate suspects, and piece together the evidence to identify the killer.

What makes it distinctive: This is the only programme that combines a structured investigation with a wine tasting experience. Teams work through the mystery while sampling and identifying the wines — making it a natural fit for client entertainment, annual dinners, D&D events, and senior leadership team sessions where a purely competitive format might feel too intense.

Logistics:

  • Group size: 10 to 150
  • Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours
  • Format: In-person
  • Venue: Any; particularly well-suited to offices or hotel dining settings

What These Games Develop in Your Team

Every escape and investigation programme is designed to surface real team dynamics — not simulate them. The skills participants develop are the same ones they use at work every day:

Communication — clues are distributed across sub-teams deliberately. No single person has the full picture. The only way to win is to share information actively and listen well.

Analytical thinking — participants must evaluate evidence, discard red herrings, and build a coherent case from incomplete information.

Decision-making under pressure — every programme has a countdown. Teams that deliberate indefinitely lose. Teams that act without coordination also lose. Finding the right pace is a skill.

Leadership — investigation games in particular create natural leadership moments: someone must synthesise the team's findings and make the call on the final answer.

Collaboration across sub-groups — larger groups are divided into sub-teams that must coordinate. This mirrors the cross-functional collaboration challenges that many organisations face in daily work.

Frequently Asked Questions — Escape & Investigation Team Building Singapore

What is a corporate escape room team building activity? A corporate escape room team building activity is a time-pressured group challenge where participants work together to solve puzzles, decode clues, and complete a shared mission — such as escaping a bank heist, catching a spy, or solving a murder mystery. Unlike commercial escape rooms, corporate versions run at any venue, accommodate 10 to 500+ participants, and are built to develop specific workplace skills. TeamBonding by SingExperience offers seven distinct programmes in this category.

What is the difference between an escape game and an investigation game? In an escape game, teams race to complete a physical or logical challenge — cracking safes, navigating a maze. In an investigation game, teams solve a mystery by analysing clues and building a case. Both require teamwork and problem-solving. TeamBonding by SingExperience offers both formats, and some programmes (like Catch The Spy) blend elements of both.

Can these programmes run at our own venue? Yes. All programmes are fully mobile and require no permanent installation. They can be set up at hotels, offices, convention centres, Sentosa resorts, Jewel Changi Airport, and outdoor locations across Singapore.

How large a group can participate? Groups of 10 to 500+ are supported. Larger groups are divided into competing teams of 4–8, all running simultaneously with their own set of clues and props.

Is there a virtual option? Yes — Virtual Investigation: Catch The Spy is fully online and can be run for remote, distributed, or international teams on any video conferencing platform.

Which programme is best for senior leadership teams? Who Did It? Wine Edition and Catch The Spy are most popular for senior leadership groups, as they emphasise strategic reasoning and deduction over physical activity. The Impossible Maze is also effective as a focused, shorter-format option within a longer leadership retreat.

Is there a programme that also delivers training value? Yes — The Impossible Maze uses 100% custom questions from your organisation's own content, making it a knowledge reinforcement tool as well as a competition. The Cyberhack Challenge delivers genuine cyber awareness training through gameplay.

Are the programmes suitable for government agencies and statutory boards? Yes. TeamBonding by SingExperience regularly works with Singapore public sector organisations. All programmes can be configured to meet government procurement requirements.

Calligraphy, literally “beautiful writing,” has been appreciated as an art form in many different cultures throughout the world, but the stature of calligraphy in Chinese culture is unmatched. In China, from a very early period, calligraphy was considered not just a form of decorative art; rather, it was viewed as the supreme visual art form, was more valued than painting and sculpture, and ranked alongside poetry as a means of self-expression and cultivation.

The uniquely crafted artistic activity aims to bring teams closer, improving collaboration and communication. No prior drawing or painting skills are required.  Through this session, participants will understand the characteristics of high performing team and appreciate teamwork.
