A Math (Additional Mathematics, or A Maths) is a two-year subject, taught in Sec 3 and Sec 4. A lot of it links back to E Math, so in our A Math classes we also go through the related E Math topics, trigonometry for example. Here are the three main parts of A Math and what is in each one.
Algebra comes first, and the rest of A Math uses it all the time. Schools don’t all teach the algebra topics in the same order, so your child’s school may follow a different order from the list below.
This part is about graphs and angles. Trigonometry goes further than it did in E Math, and the topics follow on from each other, one after another.
Calculus is new in A Math, so this is the first time your child sees it. It starts with differentiation (how fast something changes), moves on to integration (areas), then uses both for problems about motion. Each topic follows from the one before.
Not sure which part your child needs help with? Register your interest above and put their school and level in the Questions box. Our A Math classes are at Toa Payoh and Yishun, and you can also join live online.
Our A Math tuition is for Sec 3 and Sec 4 students taking O Level Additional Mathematics, including G3 students. Classes run at Toa Payoh and Yishun, and you can also join live online. We cover Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, and Calculus. Because A Math links closely to E Math, we also go through the related E Math topics, such as trigonometry.
Two things matter most: the tutors and the programme. Our tutors have strong skills, track records and experience. We also use many kinds of resources to keep lessons interesting: online video lectures, summary notes, Orion Pop Quizzes and revision assessments. Some of our materials are not available elsewhere.
Sec 3 is the better time, because A Math is a two-year subject and later topics depend on earlier ones. Sec 4 students can also join. New students join a new class rather than an existing one. Our Sec 4 lessons balance revision of Sec 3 topics with the new Sec 4 topics. Revision is done in phases, with harder questions each time.
Yes. Schools differ mainly in the order of the Algebra topics. Trigonometry and Calculus follow on from each other in the same order everywhere. Our tutors know these differences, and students may be re-grouped or given the option to join another group for the Algebra topics.
We don’t publish lesson plans online, because each class is planned around how that class is doing. For example, if most of the class is comfortable with a topic, we spend less time on it so the others can catch up. In later revision we bring harder questions on that topic back for everyone.
Classes are at Toa Payoh and Yishun, with the option to join live online. See the class schedule at the top of this page. The fee is $360 a month for 4 lessons, with GST absorbed and no deposits. You can try a class first: from November to March the first lesson is a trial, and the fee is waived if your child doesn’t continue. From April to October there is a 3-lesson trial pack.
Our tutors like to go beyond the programme for their A Math students. We often stay back after class to clear doubts, and students are always welcome to approach us. When we can, we also clear doubts over Zoom and WhatsApp. Registered students also have access to the online bite-sized revision lessons with guided practice.
