Long-Pulsed Laser technology uses longer bursts of laser energy — longer than those of Q-Switched Lasers — to gradually heat targeted structures such as hair follicles, blood vessels, and pigmented cells, while limiting heat exposure to the surrounding tissue. This targetted approach reduces the risk of burns, pigmentation changes, and downtime. Depending on the wavelength used, the Long-Pulsed Lasers can target melanin, haemoglobin, or water within the skin, making it suitable for concerns such as skin rejuvenation, hair removal, vascular lesions, redness, and certain forms of pigmentation.

Dual Wavelength Long-Pulsed Laser (755nm & 1064nm)
This is a Long-Pulsed Laser that features both 755nm Alexandrite and 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelengths. It is commonly used for hair reduction, vascular lesions, redness, and selected pigmented lesions. Unlike traditional Long-Pulsed 1064nm Nd:YAG lasers that use a single wavelength, this dual wavelength laser allows the doctor to select treatment parameters according to factors such as skin type, hair characteristics, and treatment goals.
Dual Wavelength Long-Pulsed Laser (1064nm & 2940nm)
This is a Long-Pulsed Laser that features both 1064nm Nd:YAG and 2940nm Er:YAG wavelengths. It is used for skin rejuvenation, acne scars, skin resurfacing, and collagen remodelling. By offering two wavelengths in a single platform, this dual wavelength laser offers flexibility across a range of aesthetic indications. The 1064nm wavelength reaches deeper tissue layers, while the 2940nm wavelength acts on the skin surface, allowing treatments to be selected according to different skin concerns and patient needs.
The appropriate laser treatment prescribed for a given concern depends on the individual’s skin type, treatment goal, and the nature of the concern. These factors will be assessed during consultation before a treatment plan is recommended.
The 755nm Alexandrite laser wavelength is readily absorbed by melanin, allowing it to treat superficial pigmentations and target hair follicles for hair reduction, particularly for individuals with lighter to medium skin tones. Because melanin is the primary chromophore within hair follicles, energy delivered at this wavelength can be directed towards unwanted hair while sparing the surrounding tissue. It may also be used for epidermal pigmentation such as freckles, lentigines, and sun spots.
On the other hand, the 1064nm Nd:YAG laser wavelength is suitable for treating deeper dermal pigmentation due to its longer wavelength and optical properties. This wavelength is also able to penetrate deep into the skin to target the haemoglobin within blood vessels.
As different wavelengths interact differently with various skin types and concerns, the doctor will make an assessment based on the Fitzpatrick skin type scale as well as other relevant skin concerns before determining a suitable laser, laser wavelength, and treatment setting.
This Long-Pulsed Laser combines Er:YAG and Nd:YAG wavelengths in one platform, allowing treatment of both epidermal and dermal layers. Er:YAG works on superficial skin renewal, while Nd:YAG targets deeper tissue structures. This dual capability supports a wide range of aesthetic applications, enabling tailored treatments for different skin concerns.
The 2940nm Er:YAG wavelength is readily absorbed by water within the skin and is suitable for controlled resurfacing of the superficial skin layers. This may be used for concerns relating to skin texture irregularities, acne scars, enlarged pores, and surface-level skin rejuvenation.
The 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength penetrates deeper into the dermis, where controlled thermal energy may stimulate fibroblast activity and collagen production. This wavelength may also be used to address skin laxity, vascular concerns such as facial redness and visible veins, and unwanted hair by delivering heat to targeted hair follicles.
By combining superficial resurfacing with deeper dermal heating, this laser can be used across different treatment modes depending on the clinical indication and skin condition being addressed.
How does it work?
The Long-Pulsed Laser uses two complementary laser wavelengths – 1064nm and 2940nm, creating heat which is absorbed by our skin. This triggers our skin to react in a way we want to in order to address the problem.
Your consultation begins with an assessment of your skin concerns, treatment history, skin type, and treatment goals. The doctor will examine the treatment area and determine which Long-Pulsed Laser wavelength or treatment mode may be suitable for your condition.
Before the procedure, the treatment area will be cleansed thoroughly. A topical numbing cream may be applied and left on for 15 to 20 minutes before treatment to help minimise discomfort during the procedure.
During the procedure, the doctor will apply the selected Long-Pulsed Laser mode across the treatment area. Some patients describe the sensation as a mild warmth, snapping feeling, or tingling sensation on the skin. Session duration varies depending on the concern and area being treated. A cooling device may also be used during treatment to help cool the skin and improve comfort.
After treatment, temporary redness or mild swelling may occur depending on the laser mode used. Most patients are able to resume daily activities shortly after the procedure. Patients are typically advised to use sun protection and follow post-treatment skincare instructions during recovery.
Most patients describe the sensation as a mild warmth, tingling, or light snapping sensation on the skin during the procedure. The level of discomfort varies depending on the treatment area, treatment settings, and individual sensitivity. If you experience discomfort during treatment, inform your doctor so that adjustments can be made where appropriate. The number of sessions depends on the concern being treated, skin condition, and individual treatment response. Hair reduction treatments commonly require multiple sessions because hair follicles cycle through different growth phases. The frequency of treatments for reducing facial redness, pigmentation, or skin rejuvenation will vary according to the doctor’s assesment and treatment plan.
Temporary redness, mild swelling, skin sensitivity, or warmth in the treated area may occur after treatment. Some patients may also experience temporary dryness or mild flaking depending on the laser setting used. These effects are generally temporary and will improve over the following days.
