Changi Airport’s passenger traffic up 14 times in Q2 2022

The Q2 traffic is 43.6% of the airport's pre-COVID levels.

Changi Airport’s passenger traffic hit 7.33 million in Q2 2022, up 14 times from the same period last year. The Q2 figure is also 43.6% of the airport’s pre-Covid levels.

The passenger traffic for the quarter was driven by the visitors coming and going to America and additional flights to Canada since December 2021.

“Passenger traffic to and from the Americas rebounded strongly to exceed pre-pandemic levels by 7.13%,” said the Changi Airport Group.

“Europe, Oceania and South Asia also saw strong recovery during the quarter, with passenger movements crossing 60% of levels registered during the April-June 2019 quarter,” the group added.

Apart from passenger traffic, the airport’s aircraft movements also improved, rising 96.8% YoY to 50,500 or 53.5% of its pre-COVID levels.

On the other hand, airfreight movements slightly dipped by 1.4% to 469,000 tonnes in Q2 amidst Supply chain disruptions arising from Covid-19 lockdowns in China, and geopolitical tensions.

“We are encouraged by the steady increase in passenger traffic as it is a sign that we are getting back on the trajectory of growth towards pre-pandemic levels. The reopening of Terminal 4 and partial opening of Terminal 2 will give us the capacity to support our airline partners’ efforts in restarting services and launching new routes, which are critical for us to capture post-pandemic demand for air travel,” Lim Ching Kiat, Changi Airport Group’s Managing Director for Air Hub Development, said.

As of 1 July 2022, 85 airlines operate over 4,400 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
