Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines celebrate Air India-Vistara merger

The merger consolidates the four airlines under the Air India Group.

Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines has celebrated the successful merger of Air India and Vistara at an event in New Delhi.

The merger consolidates the four airlines under the Air India Group, which will now operate one full-service airline and one low-cost carrier as part of the Vihaan.AI transformation program.

The new Air India Group operates a fleet of 300 aircraft, covering 55 domestic and 48 international destinations. With 312 routes and 8,300 weekly flights, the airline also offers global connectivity to over 800 destinations through more than 75 codeshare partners. The combined workforce exceeds 30,000 employees.

"This week’s merger between Air India and Vistara is an important milestone in our commitment to transform Air India into a world-class global airline," said Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran.

"The SIA Group will support the ongoing transformation of the enlarged Air India Group, offering our stewardship and expertise where possible," Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong said. "We are focused on helping to restore Air India to its leading position in the Indian aviation market, and creating an airline Group that everyone in India can be proud of."

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
