BCA sets up $15 million sustainable construction fund

The Building and Construction Authority will set up a $15 million fund to build capabilities, enhance processes and test-bed new sustainable construction technologies.

The Sustainable Construction Capability Development Fund will be used to raise awareness on sustainable construction and industry adoption, through education, training and promotion. Demolition contractors, construction waste recyclers and Ready-Mix Concrete manufacturers can also apply for funding support to invest in technology, improve processes and enhance the quality of the recycled products.

"Over the past few years, the Building and Construction Authority has made progress in promoting sustainable construction. For example, BCA has introduced the new Singapore Standard for aggregates - the SS EN 12620, which allows the use of recycled aggregates to replace natural aggregates," said Senior Minister of State for National Development & Education Ms Grace Fu.

As an example, Ms Fu talked about Samwoh’s Eco-Green Park during its official opening on 22 March 2010. She said, "The Eco-Green building is the first in Singapore and in Southeast Asia to use concrete made from 100% Recycled Concrete Aggregates for the construction of the top level of the building. The building is also embedded with sensors within the columns to facilitate further research into the performance of concrete made from Recycled Concrete Aggregates."

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
