Singapore’s Carolyn Choo and Tracy Ma land on Forbes Asia’s ‘Powerful Businesswomen’ list

The list features 20 successful female leaders across the Asia-Pacific region.

Two Singaporeans made it to Forbes Asia’s “Power Businesswomen” list, which honours 20 successful female leaders across the Asia-Pacific region.

Forbes lauded CEO and managing director of Worldwide Hotels, Carolyn Choo, for leading the group’s transformation and expansion into the mid-tier segment and across Asia-Pacific.

Worldwide Hotels now owns 38 hotels in Singapore and will add three new hotels by the end of 2023. Internationally, Worldwide Hotels owns 11 hotels across Australia, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand.

Hillhouse Capital Management’s Founding Partner, Tracy Ma, was honoured for building the investment powerhouse which now has more than $100b in assets under management.

Forbes also lauded Hillhouse Capital Management for being a leader in gender diversity amongst private equity firms in Asia.

“More than half of its employees are women, and almost 40% of partner-level staff. For comparison, just over 20% of employees in private equity globally are women, and fewer than 15% of senior staff,” Forbes reported.

Other female leaders who were part of the list include Makiko Ono, the first female CEO of Suntory Beverage & Food; Lee Young-hee, president of the global marketing office at Samsung Electronics; early founding member of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, Trudy Dai; and Suphajee Suthumpun, group CEO of Thailand’s Dusit International.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
