SG, Bahrain enhance dispute settlement with launch of int'l commercial court

The new Bahrain court is based on Singapore model for cross-border dispute resolution.

The Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) has partnered the Kingdom of Bahrain to launch the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC) in Manama, formalising a collaboration to enhance cross-border dispute resolution and strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional legal hub.

The BICC, modelled on the SICC framework, will hear complex commercial disputes involving international parties. It introduces a transnational appeal mechanism allowing cases from the BICC to be brought before an International Committee of the SICC, offering businesses greater consistency and predictability in commercial rulings.

Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, who delivered the keynote lecture at the launch event, said the initiative supports the development of coherent transnational commercial law and reinforces judicial cooperation between Singapore and Bahrain. He noted that the SICC model has proven effective in providing an impartial forum for cross-border commercial cases.

The Law Society of Singapore also signed memoranda of understanding with the Bahrain Centre for Dispute Resolution and the Bahrain Bar Society to facilitate joint training, promote best practices, and strengthen professional networks. These efforts aim to expand Singapore firms’ participation in international arbitration and commercial litigation in the Gulf region.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
