NEA issues haze-related notices to 10 Singapore agribusiness firms

Major players Wilmar and First Resources are amongst the firms listed.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has issued notices to 10 Singapore-registered palm oil and forestry companies, seeking details on their Indonesian plantation links and fire prevention measures amidst concerns over transboundary haze.

The companies include major agribusiness players Wilmar International, Golden Agri International, First Resources, and Bumitama Agri.

The remaining six are Asia Pulp & Paper Company Limited, Asia Pulp & Paper Company (China) Limited, Indofood Agri Resources, Kencana Agri, TSH Global Plantation, and TSH Oversea.

In a statement on 23 October, NEA said the companies were issued notices under Section 10 of the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act (THPA).

The agency is seeking information on their links with associated companies in Singapore and Indonesia, the locations of their land concessions, and measures taken to prevent or manage fires during the dry season.

The 10 companies either own land concessions in Indonesia or have related companies with such concessions, according to NEA.

Separately, the agency issued Preventive Measure Notices under Section 9 of the THPA to 10 companies in Indonesia over fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

NEA is also seeking information on fires in their concessions, firefighting efforts, and links with associated companies in Singapore and Indonesia.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
