Sembcorp to build 200MW battery storage on Jurong Island

The project completion is expected by the end of the year.

Sembcorp Industries, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Utilities, has been chosen by the Energy Market Authority to build a 200-megawatt (MW)/ 200-megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage system on Jurong Island.

In a statement last week, Sembcorp Industries said the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

The company’s battery storage portfolio in Singapore and the UK is now at 474MW/624MWh, making it one of Asia’s largest battery operators.

It added that this brings the company’s total renewables global portfolio in operation and under development to seven gigawatts (GW).

“The group remains focused on its 2025 target of 10GW gross installed renewable energy capacity,” Sembcorp said.

Sembcorp said that the announcement is not expected to have a material impact on its earnings per share and net asset value per share for the fiscal year ending on 31 December 2022.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
