F&B sales inch up 0.6% YoY in November

It reached a total amount of $706m.

Food and beverage (F&B) sales saw a 0.6% increase year-on-year (YoY) in November, as reported by the Department of Statistics.

This was a reversal of the previous month’s 4.5% decline due to tightened dine-in restrictions. October’s lower base also paved the way for a 10.4% increase month-on-month (MoM) in November.

Despite this, however, F&B sales value for the month, estimated at $706m, remained below pre-COVID levels. Of which, around 32.8% make up online F&B sales.

YoY, food caterers saw the biggest increase at 38.9%, due to a low base from the previous year. Also continuing this sentiment was cafes, food courts, and other eating places with a 3.1% YoY increase due to higher demand for food deliveries.

Meanwhile, restaurant sales were down 4.9% because of the implementation of dine-in restrictions.

MoM, the opposite can be seen as restaurants jumped by 32.8% in November 2021 owing to the easing of dine-in restrictions. Sales of food caterers and cafes, food courts, and other eating places also inched up by 4.6% and 2%, respectively.

On the other hand, sales of fast food outlets dipped by 5.2% in the same period.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
