SG’s CGH unveils first Nature-Based Therapy programme

During the sessions, patients are guided to observe their surroundings.

Changi General Hospital (CGH) has introduced its first Nature-Based Therapy programme to be integrated into inpatient care within an acute hospital setting.

Backed by Temasek Foundation and developed in partnership with the National Parks Board (NParks) and the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Biodiversity Medicine (BD-MED), the programme draws on the partners’ expertise in nature-based therapy.

In a press release, the hospital said patients are referred and screened before participating in guided Nature-Based Therapy sessions.

During the sessions, patients are guided to observe their surroundings, touch and smell plants, and explore different sights, scents and textures.

Central to the programme are the Sensory Gardens, located in two geriatric medicine and rehabilitation wards in the CGH Integrated Building.

A Sensory Garden has also been created at Level 4 of CGH Medical Centre as an open space for patients and visitors to the specialist clinics.

The hospital said insights from the pilot will be used to develop a green social prescription playbook, with the aim of enabling more hospitals in Singapore to incorporate nature-based care.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
