42% of tech companies are recruiting from unrelated sectors to address talent crunch

Some tech companies source their reskilled workers from the manufacturing sector.

Over four in 10 (42%) of tech companies are bolstering their workforce by reskilling recruits from unrelated sectors, a study by Equinix has found.

Most tech companies are sourcing their reskilled workers from the administration and business support (40%), manufacturing (23%), and finance and insurance (22%) sectors.

Some are also recruiting and reskilling those returning to work after a period of absence (21%).

Reskilled workers are often tasked to do cloud computing (45%) or take on the role of an IT technician (46%) or data analyst (30%).

Apart from unrelated sectors, companies are also recruiting through higher education and apprenticeship programs.

Companies mainly explore collaborative training programs with higher education institutes (46%), offering student internships (37%), taking part in university career fairs (32%) and partnering on degree apprenticeships (32%).

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
