Bad working conditions? Only 5 in 10 will stay with their employers in 2022

SG’s employee retention rate was the lowest in APAC at 53%.

Only five in 10 Singaporean employees plan to stay with their current employers in the next 12 months, Qualtrics has found.

When compared to other countries in the Asia Pacific, Singapore had the lowest rate of employee retention at 53%.

The main reason cited by employees for staying is the feeling of belongingness. Other drivers of intent to stay include wellbeing, growth and development opportunities, and being customer-focused.

In terms of wellbeing, the survey found that 18% of employees are not comfortable taking a sick day despite feeling unwell; this, according to Qualtris should be a key area for employers to focus on in hybrid environments along with providing employees with technologies and tools to help them work under this setup.

The study said 24% of Singaporeans are underwhelmed by the technologies provided in hybrid environments, with just 24% saying it meets their expectations, thus leading to reduced productivity (36%),

Meanwhile, the study also found that resilience at work dropped 11%.

“For businesses in Singapore to be successful in attracting and retaining talent in the current environment, they need to adopt new mindsets and continue to define and iterate their new ways of working…Addressing the challenges faced are not as simple as setting a new work schedule or offering higher salaries. People’s experience at work, and the career decisions they’re making, are being influenced by multiple factors, meaning the ability to quickly and easily identify and respond to the issues having the biggest impact is a significant advantage,” said Lauren Huntington, employee experience solutions strategist for Qualtrics in Southeast Asia.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
