Daily briefing: American vents, says people in Singapore do not understand him

Yes, in an English-speaking country.

  • The frustrated American wrote, “It's really becoming an annoying trend in that many people don't understand what I am saying. Specifically taxi uncles or those who work at places like Kopitiams. I understand I can talk fast, so I go out of my way to slow it down and enunciate, but it doesn't seem to help.” Read more here.
  • Meanwhile another story causing buzz is that involving construction workers in Yishun who stopped work on Tuesday. A report said, “MOM investigations reveal 28 workers were not paid their November salary. A spokesman says 25 of them have since been paid on 18 Dec as at 11.30pm. The remaining three who were absent will be paid when they report to work on 19 Dec.” See the story here.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
