Singaporean Gen Z prioritises health over career: survey

Two in three believe having healthy skin is an important aspect of overall health.

"Physical health" has leapt over "career" as the number one priority for Gen Z Singaporeans, with 82% saying they are more conscious about their health since the pandemic, a study by DeVries Global said.

Additionally, mental health also took precedence over social life in the rankings.

When it comes to caring for their health, however, Gen Zs in Singapore focus on self-care habits such as exercising, eating healthy, and self-pampering treatments; rather than seeking professional help with only 3.8% say they sought therapy and counselling and 7.1% say they do regular medical checkups.

When it comes to self-care, skin health reigns supreme for the Gen Zs in Singapore, with two in three respondents agreeing that having healthy skin is an important aspect of overall health.

Skincare has become a serious business for Gen Zs with most of them placing their trust on experts and friends. The survey revealed that Gen Zs in Singapore are more skeptical of paid promotions with only 32% consider reviews by influencers as convincing.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
