Google Cloud opens Singapore Engineering Centre for AI and cloud development

This aims to expand Google’s AI-ready workforce and regional engineering capabilities.

Google Cloud has inaugurated the Singapore Engineering Centre (SEC), a product development hub focused on AI and cloud technologies in Southeast Asia.

The centre brings together software engineers specialising in AI, AI infrastructure, data, compute, machine learning, core networking, and storage, alongside frontline support teams.

Google Cloud said the SEC will work directly with enterprises to develop and adapt cloud systems for their requirements, including businesses in Singapore expanding internationally.

The company first announced plans for the centre at Google for Singapore in February 2026.

The initiative is supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and forms part of Google's plans to expand its AI-ready workforce and regional engineering capabilities.

The SEC will focus on three areas: next-generation agentic cloud infrastructure, the integration of frontier models into enterprise systems, and developer platforms and automation.

Under the agentic cloud programme, engineers will work on scalable data engines and cloud infrastructure designed for low-latency, mission-critical enterprise and agentic workloads.

The centre will also integrate developments in foundational models and agentic platforms into Google Cloud's cloud solutions, with an emphasis on applications for local contexts and global deployment.

A third focus is developer platforms and automation, including secure API frameworks, autonomous agent orchestration tools, hybrid and multicloud software delivery, open-source development, and ecosystem contributions.

Its engineers will work with customers' technical teams during product development to adapt platforms and AI systems to business requirements before they reach production.

Early collaborations include stress-testing real-time multilingual AI models with Grab and developing financial agentic workflows with DBS.

Google Cloud said these projects are intended to feed solutions developed for Southeast Asian business requirements into its wider product portfolio.

The company is also expanding its regional Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) workforce.

FDEs will work with customers to integrate and scale innovations developed through the SEC and support the transition of projects from pilots into commercial production.
