Nearly 50% of consumers use AI to assist shopping: survey

The report found that 49% of Singapore consumers used AI tools, such as ChatGPT, for shopping in the past year.

Nearly half of Singapore consumers have turned to AI assistants to enhance their shopping experiences, according to Adyen’s latest Retail Report 2025.

The report found that 49% of Singapore consumers used AI tools, such as ChatGPT, for shopping in the past year, marking a significant 33% YoY increase.

Millennials and Gen Z are leading the charge, with AI usage rates at 64% and 58%, respectively.

Amongst Singapore consumers who have embraced AI for shopping, 67% said AI helps generate inspiration for outfits or meals faster than anyone else, whilst 66% said it helps them filter online noise and discover unique brands or experiences.

In addition, nearly two-thirds (64%) are open to making purchases directly through AI-powered interfaces, and 69% feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information on social media.

Millennials in Singapore are especially enthusiastic. The report found that 77% use AI to seek out unique brands, 69% are willing to shop directly through AI, and 72% say AI helps them navigate digital overload.

Singapore consumers also indicated specific innovations they hope to see from retailers, with 38% saying they want easier returns and exchanges across online and physical stores, 33% want real-time stock updates, and 31% are looking for more personalised promotions and discounts.

The report noted that AI is not only reshaping online shopping but also transforming in-store experiences. Around 44% of Singapore retailers said they have seen faster checkouts and higher customer satisfaction after implementing mobile payments and service solutions.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
