Universal Quantum picks Singapore for first R&D centre outside Europe
The facility will focus on ion trap chip process development.
UK-based Universal Quantum is set to establish a research and development competency centre in Singapore, its first outside Europe.
The new centre will focus on ion trap chip process development and integration, combining the company’s chip design capabilities with Singapore’s fabrication and packaging ecosystem.
The company said the work will support the development of fault-tolerant, scalable trapped-ion quantum computers.
It added that the office will be developed as its first Asia-Pacific hub.
“The strength of the ecosystem, the ambition of the government's quantum strategy, and the quality of the industrial and research partners on the ground are unmatched in the region,” said Luc Gerardin, Global Head of Business Development at Universal Quantum.
The centre will launch with an initial team of 25, with plans to expand as the company grows its operations in Singapore.
