Tai Sin Electric warns of profit hit as copper spike triggers provisions

Company says contracts won at fixed prices were unfinished at 31 Dec. 2025, prompting added provisions after copper rose.

Tai Sin Electric expects to report a significantly lower net profit for the half year ended 31 Dec. 2025, citing a sharp rise in copper prices that triggered additional provisions for onerous contracts.

The company said the profit decline stems primarily from a sudden surge in copper prices towards the end of Dec. 2025.

This required the group to make additional provisions for contracts secured earlier at fixed selling prices that remained uncompleted as of 31 Dec. 2025, the filing showed.

Tai Sin said it is finalising its unaudited management accounts for 1HFY2026. The group will disclose further details on its financial performance when it releases its unaudited consolidated results via SGXNet before 14 Feb.

The company advised shareholders and potential investors to exercise caution when dealing in its shares pending the release of the full financial results.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
