NEA says nuclear deployment remains under study

This comes ahead of the IAEA’s infrastructure review next year.

Singapore has yet to decide on nuclear deployment, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) on 27 October.

This is ahead of the country’s preparation for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) Phase 1 Mission next year.

NEA has appointed consultancy firms to explore three research areas under the government’s broader efforts to strengthen capabilities across the 19 infrastructure areas under the IAEA Milestones Approach.

This is expected to support the potential deployment of nuclear energy in Singapore.

Enconet Consulting Gmbh will tackle the study on international regulations and environmental standards of nuclear facilities.

AtkinsRéalis Singapore Pte Ltd will handle the study on international nuclear safety standards and requirements, whilst Environmental Resources Management (S) Pte Ltd will research potential environmental implications of a nuclear power plant.

"These studies will support NEA in strengthening our expertise in areas including nuclear safety, regulation and environmental protection, drawing on international experience and practices,” said Geraldine Low, NEA CEO.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
