OCBC tops Forbes' 2026 World's Top Performing Banks list

DBS takes second place ahead of HDFC Bank and China Merchants Bank.

Singapore’s OCBC ranked first amongst Tier 1 global banks in Forbes’ inaugural World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 list.

DBS placed second in the same category, putting the two Singapore-headquartered lenders ahead of Mumbai’s HDFC Bank, Shenzhen’s China Merchants Bank, and New York’s JPMorganChase.

Tier 1 covers banks with more than $634.5b (US$500b) in total assets. A total of 24 institutions were included in the category.

The ranking, compiled by Forbes in partnership with market research firm Statista, assessed banks using financial data rather than customer survey results.

Banks were evaluated across profitability, capital and funding resilience, asset quality and efficiency, and growth and earnings quality.

Overall, 500 institutions from 89 countries were included in the 2026 ranking.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
