Crystal Jade shuts four outlets and cuts 120 jobs as Kroll preps sale

Nine remaining outlets will continue operations.

Crystal Jade has closed four Singapore restaurants and issued termination notices to about 120 workers as Kroll restructures the business ahead of a proposed sale.

Kroll, appointed receiver of Crystal Jade’s Singapore and Hong Kong holding companies on 29 September, said restructuring measures for the Singapore business have been completed.

The four outlets that ceased operations in October were three Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao outlets at Bugis Junction, Toa Payoh, and Katong i12, and Crystal Jade GO at Punggol Oasis Terrace.

Crystal Jade will continue operating its remaining nine Singapore outlets, with its workforce reduced to about 210.

Kroll and Crystal Jade have been engaging the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU), an affiliate of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), since Sept 30 to support affected employees through the transition.

Affected employees have been informed directly and will receive salary payments through their final employment dates, Kroll said.

Separately, Crystal Jade’s central kitchen, which is outside the receivership, ceased operations on 5 October as part of the broader restructuring.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
