Anticipating the coming of the weekend? It is the third week of the New Year and you must be wondering how to fill the beginning of 2018 with fun, exciting trips out with your kids. Look no further as we have lined up a list of activities and events you can get involved in.
Light to Night Festival
This festival is an opportunity for you and your kids to be awed by the spectacular display of lights on Singapore’s iconic cultural institutions and parks in the heart of the Civic District. These include the National Gallery Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum, The Arts House, Victoria Theatre 7 Victoria Concert Hall, Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay, the Padang, Empress Lawn and Esplanade Park. You and your kids can be amazed by these iconic spaces as they are transformed into wonderful sensation works of art with visual art installations, music dance and literary performances. The Light to Night festival is the place you and your kids would want to be at to soak in the vibes of art, light and culture. It is happening from the 19 – 28 January from 5 pm to midnight.
Minions Pop-Up Café
If you are a fan of the friendly tiny yellow Minions from the Despicable Me movie, make a visit to Orchard Central for a dining experience of a pop-up café style by Japanese restaurant “The Guest café & diner”. The Minion Café has a fun and creative range of dishes. You will be tempted to want to try everything on the menu. There are 14 items on the menu, with a selection of main courses, desserts and drinks that are uniquely created for the café and its diners. Popular dishes are “Minion Riceball Party”, “Minion Rush” and the popular “S’more & Minions Ice Cream”. You can even shop for the adorable Minion merchandises right after having your food.
Circus! Science Under The Big Top
Get involved in some of the wonders and highlights of The Big Top. This is a chance for you and your kids to get strapped into a harness and bring out the daredevil in you while walking across a 3-Metre High Wire. This is some thrilling action you cannot miss out on. Ever wondered what it is like being a gymnast? You can take your try at the Elastic Acrobatics exhibits, by performing your own stunts and somersaults in mid-air. This is running all the way until 18 March at The Science Centre.
Splash @ Kidz Amaze
Children like to get wet! If your child is ready to have some splashing fun, this gigantic indoor water playground is just the right fit. It is a 23, 000 square feet space that has five slides and eight play decks. This is a great escapade for a weekend activity under the water without sun and tan. If your child likes getting dunked then expect most of it to come his or her way.
Family Fishing Trip
Punggol Park’s pond can be your perfect location for a nice and relaxing fishing ‘trip’ with the family. You can take a break from the crowds and have a casual time with the kids, teach them a thing or two about fishing. If your child wants to take a break, the route around the central pond is perfect for those who want to skate or ride.
Diggersite at Yishun
Try your hand at operating real versions of heavy-duty machinery used for construction work. What makes it safe is the small size of the machinery making it easier to work with. There are seven available zones at the diggersite and they are the Tower Cranes, Hydraulic Excavators, The CLAW, Grabber Cranes, Wrecking Ball, Log Grapples, and the Forklift. Children will be tasked with construction works and small obstacles. Once finished, they will feel a certain sense of achievement. The tasks will also aid in the development of coordination, as well as fine and gross motor skills.
Maritime Experiential Museum at Resorts World Sentosa
The Maritime Experiential Museum plays host to five brand new galleries to many engaging activities. Children can learn and explore about the maritime coin history, legacy and more. The 4D multi-sensory experience at the Typhoon Theatre will ensure to take the precious little ones on a vessel that will encounter a tumultuous storm.
Safari Zoo Run 2018
Remembering Singapore’s most loved animal personality, Ah Meng the Sumatran Orangutan, this run will not only commemorate the most famous animal but will also raise awareness on wildlife conservation. It helps to encourage family bonding and educates children on the preservation of wildlife in Singapore. You can also make a difference by donating to the Wildlife Reserves Singapore Conservation Fund (WRSCF). You can do your part by joining a team and running for a cause. What a better way to start out the New Year?
