Since opening its doors in May 2012, Our Music Studio has been dedicated to providing quality music and movement enrichment in Singapore for children from newborns to seven years old. Founded by eight passionate women with a combined experience of over 120 years in teaching music and movement, the studio offers a fun, engaging, and holistic approach to early childhood music education.

By combining Orff Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and Kodály pedagogies, Our Music Studio helps young children develop a love for music while supporting their overall development.

Programme Highlights

The OMS Approach: The approach revolves around four key principles: Exposure, Internalisation, Expression, and Improvisation. Each principle is carefully crafted to support the child’s development while also making learning fun and interactive.
- Exposure: Children are introduced to a wide range of musical genres and cultural songs, helping them develop an appreciation for different types of music.
- Internalisation: Through interactive activities such as clapping, dancing, and singing, children learn to internalise music concepts like pitch, rhythm, and melody.
- Expression: Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively through singing, instrument play, and dance, which boosts their confidence and imagination.
- Improvisation: As children become more comfortable with music, they are encouraged to improvise and create their own compositions, allowing them to express their unique creativity.
Tailored Programme Offerings: Whether your child is a newborn or just about to start school, there’s a programme to suit them!
- Musical Babes (Newborn to 18 months): This programme focuses on building early auditory skills through soothing lullabies, gentle movement, and interactive songs. It’s the perfect way for babies and parents to bond while introducing them to the joys of music.
- Rhythmic Tots (18 months to 3 years): Toddlers explore rhythm through clapping, dancing, and playing simple percussion instruments. This stage encourages fine motor development and enhances language skills through song and movement.
- Melodic Kids (3 to 4 years): Children in this group begin to explore melodies and rhythms through instruments like tone bars and xylophones, and they continue to develop their social and physical skills through music and dance.
- Young Musicians (4 to 6 years): At this stage, children work with basic music notation, rhythm exercises, and more complex instruments, helping them build a strong foundation in music while developing collaborative skills through group activities.

Octaves: Outreach Programmes for Schools and Childcare Centres

Understanding that many families prefer integrating music education with their child’s school schedule, Our Music Studio offers outreach programmes for nurseries, kindergartens, and childcare centres across Singapore. These programmes bring engaging music and movement lessons directly to schools, helping children develop key skills. Vocally, they explore songs, chants, and rhymes to enhance language and listening. Aurally, they distinguish sounds, pitches, and rhythms. Creative movement activities improve coordination and motor skills, while instrumental play introduces percussion instruments.
