Bringing a new baby into the world is exciting, overwhelming — and let’s be real, a little intimidating. One of the biggest questions parents-to-be in Singapore face is: where should I give birth?
With so many options — from gleaming private hospitals with suites that look like five-star hotels, to trusted public hospitals with world-class neonatal care — making the right choice can feel daunting. Add in the financial planning and the little luxuries you may (or may not) want, and suddenly the decision carries even more weight.
That’s why we’ve put together this complete guide to giving birth in Singapore, breaking down hospital delivery costs, room types, and what other services offered to support your first few days of recovery.
The Splurge: Luxury Private Hospitals
Mount Elizabeth Novena – For Privacy & Exclusivity
Think single-room only setups with optional Junior Suites that come with terraces or a family lounge. Prices start from SGD 11,249 for a natural birth, and SGD 16,870 for C-sections. Mothers rave about the five-star service, attentive staff, and unmatched privacy.
Gleneagles – For the VIP Experience
From SGD 10,230 (natural) and SGD 14,748 (C-section), Gleneagles is all about indulgence. Expect superior suites, personalised birth plans, and even perks like massages and limousine transfers. This is the pick if you want a little pampering with your push.
The Balanced Choice: Comfort Meets Affordability
Raffles Hospital – For Premium Comfort
Known for clean rooms, excellent food, and stellar lactation consultants, Raffles offers packages from SGD 8,631 (natural) and SGD 14,982 (C-section). A trusted name for mothers who want both comfort and strong breastfeeding support.
Mount Alvernia – For Warmth & Care
With vaginal delivery packages from SGD 8,484 and C-sections from SGD 13,052, Mount Alvernia is praised for its cosy atmosphere and strong emphasis on skin-to-skin bonding and breastfeeding.
Thomson Medical – For Balance
At SGD 7,640 (natural) and SGD 10,570 (C-section), Thomson is the “just right” choice. Intimate, recently renovated, and supportive of natural birth practices, it blends comfort with affordability.
Parkway East – For East Coast Families
More affordable than other private hospitals (SGD 6,667 for natural and SGD 13,240 for C-sections), Parkway East offers friendly care and modernised rooms — perfect for families living nearby.
The Trusted Public Hospitals
KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) – For High-Risk Pregnancies
As Singapore’s largest maternity hospital, KKH delivers safety and experience at a fraction of private hospital costs (SGD 1,269 natural; SGD 2,469 C-section). Its NICU is the best in the country, making it a first choice for high-risk births.
NUH – For Natural Birth Supporters
Starting at SGD 1,440 (natural) and SGD 1,903 (C-section), NUH is known for midwife-led labours, aromatherapy, and doula-friendly practices. Progressive and supportive, it’s popular among parents keen on natural birthing.
SGH – For Reliable, Affordable Care
At SGD 1,553 (natural) and SGD 2,898 (C-section), SGH offers trusted maternity care with breastfeeding and confinement support. It’s a reliable, no-frills option for parents prioritising affordability without compromising on medical standards.
The Takeaway
- For indulgence: Mount Elizabeth Novena or Gleneagles.
- For balance: Thomson Medical or Mount Alvernia.
- For affordability: NUH, SGH, and KKH.
- For special care: NUH (natural birth focus) and KKH (NICU and high-risk pregnancies).
Wherever you decide, giving birth in Singapore means access to excellent care — the key is finding the hospital that matches your budget, birthing style, and personal comfort.
