Bumitama Agri to engage assessors over Indonesia fires link
It said it will engage voluntarily and at its own cost.
Bumitama Agri said it is voluntarily engaging with the Singapore government in assessing its connection with the fires in Indonesia.
Bumitama Agri previously received a notice from the Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA) related to the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act of 2014.
NEA issued notices to 10 Singapore-registered palm oil and forestry companies on 23 October.
“The board wishes to announce that the company has communicated its commitment to engage, voluntarily and at its own cost, the assessors from the government's panel of assessors, as directed by NEA, in connection with the fires in Indonesia,” Bumitama Agri said in a bourse filing on 2 November.
The palm oil and agricultural company said that it will cooperate with the assessors in carrying out their assessment, in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, and as may be directed by the NEA.
Bumitama Agri said that it shares the government’s concerns over the impact of the fires and haze.
Other companies who received notices from NEA include Wilmar International, Golden Agri International, First Resources, and TSH Global Plantation, amongst others.
