Travelsilience: Majority are anxious about inflation but are still eager to travel

Almost all travellers plan to travel at least once next year despite inflation.

In 2023, a study found that travellers are adopting “travelsillience,” meaning that travellers will be eager to travel against all odds, even if it means shelling out cash amidst economic uncertainties.

According to Klook, the travelsilience is happening amongst Singaporeans, with 92% of travellers in the Lion City are eager to travel compared to 8% who are not eager about it.

Despite this, eight in 10 travellers in Singapore are still anxious about travel even with macroeconomic woes expected next year. This percentage is higher than the Asian average of 77%.

Almost all travellers in Singapore are seeking to go on at least one international holiday next year and 54% plan for two to four holidays.

The most popular travel break length is three to five days (44%), followed by six to nine days (38%), 10 or more days (29%), and one to two days (18%).

Amongst Singapore travellers, the top concerns are the cost of travel (70%), followed by catching COVID while travelling (47%), flight delays and lost baggage (37%), transportation (37%), and availability of flights (35%).

The poll was held in November 2022 through Stickybeak, using a total of 902 respondents across 9 markets including Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, and Korea.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
