Scoot rolls out PayNow payment option for customers

Travellers can pay for their flights directly from their bank accounts using a QR-code.

Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) budget airlines Scoot has collaborated with UOB to welcome PayNow as a payment option for customers who book flights via the FlyScoot website, an announcement revealed.

Scoot customers in Singapore can use PayNow to make payments for their flights directly from their bank account, in addition to the other payment modes such as credit card and AXS.

PayNow is an interbank funds transfer service that enables retail customers and companies in Singapore to send and to receive payments to and from participating banks by simply using the recipient’s mobile phone number, Singapore NRIC/FIN or the company’s Unique Entity Number.

“Once the customer selects the ‘PayNow’ option on the FlyScoot.com payment checkout page, a QR code will be generated on-screen,” the airline explained in a statement. “Customers can then scan the QR code through the mobile banking app of any PayNow participating bank. To complete the payment, customers simply need to confirm the payment amount and the recipient fields, which are automatically filled.”

UOB’s application programming interface (API) service will then provide Scoot with a confirmation of payment receipt instantly. “This in turn means customers will be able to receive a real-time notification from the payment webpage that their Scoot flight booking has been successfully completed,” they added.

Payment via PayNow will be officially launched on 19 March, in line with Scoot’s ‘Got To Go’ promotion.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
