Changi Airport reaches 62.6% of pre-COVID traffic in September

The airport handled 3.42 million passenger movements.

Changi Airport’s passenger movements jumped to new heights in September, reaching 62.6% of its pre-COVID traffic in the same month in 2019.

In September, the airport handled 3.42 million passenger movements in September 2022, whilst aircraft movements, which include landings and takeoffs, totalled 20,400.

The total aircraft movements were 65.6% of September 2019 levels.

On the flip side, airfreight throughput declined 10% YoY to 154,000 tonnes.

Including September figures, the airport recorded a total of 10 million passenger movements in Q3 or 58.1% of its pre-COVID levels.

The top five traffic markets for the quarter were Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Thailand.

Air freight movements, however, declined 6% YoY to 470,000 tonnes in Q3.

“Air cargo demand has weakened in recent months amid global economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures,” the airport said.

The top five air cargo markets for the quarter were China, Australia, the United States of America, Hong Kong and Japan.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
