KKR launches new financial advisory platform in Singapore

It aims to support firms with strategy, tech, and compliance.

KKR has launched Ascend Asia Financial Services Group, a new financial advisory platform based in Singapore.

At the same time, Ascend Asia—through KKR-managed funds—has signed agreements to acquire finexis advisory and its affiliates. Finexis will be the platform’s first member firm.

Ascend Asia is the first platform of its kind in Singapore, aimed at supporting financial advisory firms with strategic resources, industry expertise, and operational support.

The platform will help member firms invest in professional development, improve technology, and enhance regulatory compliance whilst maintaining their individual identities.

The leadership team is headed by CEO Tomas Urbanec, former CEO of Prudential Singapore.

Other senior leaders include Chief Risk & Compliance Officer Tan Siew Yen, former CRO at Aviva and Income Insurance, and General Counsel Leonard Ong, who previously held senior legal roles at AXA, Asia Capital Re, and AIA.

Patrick Teow, former CEO of AIA Singapore, also joins as senior advisor.

More leadership appointments are expected soon.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore has given in-principle approval for the finexis acquisition, which is expected to close in Q3 2025, pending final approvals.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
