SIT opens new school for lifelong career development
The integrated model will connect skills assessment and continuing education with employment.
The Singapore Institute of Technology has established a new school aimed at helping working adults navigate career changes and companies build capabilities for workforce transformation.
The SIT School of Lifelong Learning and Career Development, or SITLEARN, brings together skills assessment, continuing education, career services, industry partnerships and applied workforce research.
For individuals, the school will provide pathways beginning with an assessment of existing skills. Learners may then receive recommended training aligned with their career goals, complete flexible and stackable programs, and access career coaching and employment opportunities.
Career support will initially be extended to adult learners enrolled in selected longer-form continuing education and training programs.
Companies can use SITLEARN to diagnose workforce capabilities, identify skills gaps and co-develop targeted programs with SIT. Organisations requiring deeper support may also establish corporate academy partnerships with the university.
SITLEARN’s initial offerings will address workforce needs related to artificial intelligence, green data centers and emerging safety risks.
SIT and Straits Interactive are developing a three-tier AI capability pathway covering practical workforce skills, leadership preparation, governance and enterprise-wide adoption.
The university has also developed an AI Maturity and Readiness assessment that examines employees’ willingness, relevant domain knowledge and adoption behavior. The tool is being piloted with about 400 Singtel employees.
SITLEARN is working with more than 40 organisations across sectors including hospitality, healthcare and social services on AI readiness and workforce capability projects.
Meanwhile, SIT and Nxera are developing specialist certificates in electrical systems and energy management and data-centre cooling-system design.
A new Master of Science in Safety and Risk, developed with the Singapore Civil Defence Force, is targeted for launch in early 2027. It will initially offer specialisations in fire-safety engineering and process safety.
The school will also bring current industry knowledge into its classrooms through a Corporate Adjunct Professorship Scheme. NCS is the first company to join the scheme, with an initial group of employees expected to teach, mentor and coach learners whilst continuing their industry careers.
SIT is developing a dedicated SITLEARN hub at its Punggol campus. The facility, expected to be ready in 2027, will combine learning, assessment, career development and industry engagement in one location.
