New government standard sets guidance for tropical data centre liquid cooling

The SS 726 covers system design, commissioning, and risk management.

Singapore has introduced a new standard for the design and operation of liquid-cooling systems in tropical data centres (DCs) as operators handle higher-density computing workloads, including artificial intelligence.

The Singapore Standard SS 726:2026 (SS 726) covers system design, commissioning, risk management, and safe operations for liquid-cooling systems in warmer conditions.

In addition, it includes guidance on DC floor loading, cooling-loop and equipment design, piping materials, fluid quality, and system monitoring and management.

SS 726 also sets out practices for measuring and optimising water use.

The standard was developed by the Infocomm Media Development Authority and Enterprise Singapore through the Singapore Standards Council, with input from DC operators, consultants, technology providers, and academic researchers.

They build on existing international guidance, including practices from the Open Compute Project and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
