Mapletree to develop Grade A warehouse development in Japan for $550m

It is set to be the largest logistics warehouse space in Kyushu.

Mapletree Investments has acquired a plot of land in Fukuoka, Japan to build a Grade A warehouse development with a slated total investment of $550m.

The land, measuring a total of 116,319 square meters (sqm), will be transformed into two blocks of four-storey, double ramp-way logistics facilities with a combined gross floor area of 231,648 sqm. It is set to be the largest logistics warehouse space in Kyushu upon completion, Mapletree said.

The site is well-connected to major transportation infrastructure, including the Chikushino Interchange of the Kyushu Expressway, Fukuoka Airport and the Fukuoka central business district area.

“Apart from diversifying our logistics portfolio, this prime land acquisition will enable the group to build a presence in Kyushu, provide quality logistics space to our business partners and deepen our network connectivity in seven out of eight regions in Japan,” Mapletree regional chief executive officer Wong Mun Hoong said.

Construction of the first warehouse will be done by early 2023, whilst the second warehouse is slated to open by Spring 2024.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
