LTA awards $1.2b in contracts for Tuas Road Viaduct Phase 2
Works will cover viaducts along Pioneer Road, Tuas South Avenue 3, and Tuas South Boulevard.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded three civil contracts worth about $1.2b for Tuas Road Viaduct (Phase 2) (TRV2).
Construction is expected to start in early 2027, with the projects progressively completed from 2032.
The $381.6m contract for the Pioneer Road Viaduct was awarded to Hwa Seng Builder Pte Ltd. The company has worked on the viaduct from Tampines Expressway (TPE) to Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) and Upper Changi Road East, as well as the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway and TPE interchange. It is currently involved in the Loyang Viaduct and three stations on the Jurong Region Line (JRL).
China Communications Construction Company Limited (Singapore Branch) received the $430.3 million contract for the Tuas South Avenue 3 Viaduct. The company is currently involved in Boon Lay station and viaduct works on the JRL, viaduct and tunnel works for the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, and the Jurong East Integrated Transport Hub.
The $404.4m contract for the Tuas South Boulevard Viaduct was awarded to China Harbour (Singapore) Engineering Company Pte. Ltd., which is currently involved in the construction of two JRL stations.
All three contractors have experience delivering major transport and civil engineering projects in Singapore.
TRV2 will extend the existing Tuas Viaduct and improve connections between Pioneer Road, Tuas South and Tuas Port. The project includes new road viaducts, road improvements, drainage works, and supporting infrastructure.
The extensions will connect to Tuas Port through Tuas South Avenue 3 and Tuas South Boulevard, and to the city through Pioneer Road. They will support industrial developments in Tuas South and the consolidation of Singapore’s container port activities at Tuas.
Once completed, the existing Tuas Road Viaduct and TRV2 will form a continuous elevated road corridor from the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) to Pioneer Road and Tuas South.
The corridor will bypass 18 surface-level junctions, improving traffic flow and reducing travel times for motorists.
Traffic realignments and lane closures along Tuas South Avenue 3, Tuas South Boulevard and Pioneer Road will be introduced progressively during construction.
