Sembcorp’s 600MW power plant begins commercial operations

The facility is designed to run on low-carbon fuels over time.

Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) announced that its 600-megawatt hydrogen-ready combined-cycle gas turbine in Jurong Island began commercial operation on 28 October.

The firm said the new capacity will help provide reliable power for Singapore’s energy-heavy industries. The facility is also designed to accommodate low-carbon fuels over time.

Sembcorp collaborated with Jurong Energy Limited and Mitsubishi Power for the construction of this capacity.

Currently, Sembcorp has a 5.7 gigawatt (GW) gas-fired and renewables portfolio in Singapore and more than 2GW of regional renewable energy import opportunities.

Koh Chiap Khiong, Sembcorp's president and CEO of Gas and Related Services and CEO of Singapore, said that the new facility will support Singapore’s artificial intelligence-driven growth and enhance the country’s energy resilience.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
