Sentosa and TADA to deploy on-demand AVs from 2027
Rides are complimentary during the pilot, operating from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) partners with TADA Mobility (Singapore) Pte Ltd to roll out a pilot of an on-demand shared autonomous vehicle (AV) service on Sentosa by early 2027.
This is the island’s first on-demand shared service to operate across a wide network of locations, complementing Sentosa’s existing roadmap with 27 pick-up and drop-off (PUDO) points, to be launched progressively.
The pilot will explore how the service can reduce waiting times, providing improved ride certainty and shortening connections between transport nodes, hotels and attractions.
The AVs are developed by WeRide, with each vehicle seating up to eight guests, with a safety operator on board.
SDC said the AVs will primarily utilise service roads along Siloso Beach and Palawan Beach, as well as the island’s public roads, so guests can visit beachfront attractions and restaurants without shifting to a beach shuttle.
“This partnership with TADA is also part of our Smart Sentosa ambition and our role as a ‘living lab’ to explore new mobility solutions that can make the guest experience even more seamless and convenient,” said Thien Kwee Eng, CEO of SDC.
Guests could book AVs through TADA’s booking platform. The application will use GPS data to suggest the nearest available PUDO points across the island.
TADA said they will work with the Land Transport Authority to ensure AVs follow safety and operational protocols. Ahead of the pilot, SDC and TADA will also conduct further trials to validate routes, booking, boarding and safety procedures.
The service will be complimentary for guests during the pilot period and will operate from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Guests can scan a QR code on the on-site wayfinding signage for more information.
Subsequent phases of the service will extend its network across Sentosa, subject to LTA’s regulatory approvals.
