Our Curriculum
The Power of Stories
Our proprietary literature-based curriculum turns education into an adventure. Using authentic, award-winning children’s literature, we harness the power of stories to immerse every child in rich and exciting learning experiences. Through a multitude of expert techniques such as immersive storytelling and open-ended discussions, children are exposed to a world of perspectives where they learn to tackle concepts in multiple learning areas and develop key competencies like critical thinking and problem solving.
Literature as a Teaching Tool
Key benefits of a literature-based approach
Perspective-taking
Through exposure to an array of picturebooks, children are introduced to a variety of characters, opening up a world of perspectives as they nurture their abilities to understand how situations appear differently to people. They expand their worldview and learn how to empathise and think beyond themselves.
01
Meaning-making
Our educators don’t just read to children, they read with them. This sparks dialogues where children learn to make sense of and interpret situations, events, objects and relationships not just alone, but with their educators and peers. They bring prior knowledge to current contexts and construct meaning together.
02
Critical Thinking
Armed with a variety of questioning techniques, our educators engage children and teach them to analyse, evaluate, elaborate, apply, explain, predict and draw conclusions from what they’ve read. Such an approach helps children develop understanding and depth of thought.
03
Early Literacy & Visual Literacy
It is not just about teaching our children how to read. More so, we develop the skills they need to be successful readers. Our literature-rich learning environments help build essential language skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, self-expression and even visual literacy.
04
Love for Learning
Stories offer children the chance to discover new worlds, ideas and interesting things about others as well as themselves. They create participatory and immersive experiences, allowing children to enjoy the process of learning and helping them recall lessons even after a long time.

Frequently asked questions
Our proprietary literature-based curriculum is developed in-house by our curriculum team, with each lesson centred around carefully selected, award-winning children’s literature.
Each story serves as the foundation for a series of intentionally designed learning experiences. Our curriculum team develops the games, activities, worksheets and projects around each title. Children revisit the same story multiple times through language and literacy, mathematics, science, art, music and movement, drawing connections between what they learn and discovering different ways to engage with and understand a concept.
This approach gives Star Learners’ curriculum its distinctive literature-based structure, where stories are woven throughout the learning experience.
Stories are a fun and engaging way to spark young children’s interest in learning. At Star Learners, picture books serve as a springboard for learning, giving children opportunities to respond to stories in different ways and make connections across different areas of learning.
Lessons in our literature-based curriculum are amplified through activities which help hone a combination of skills essential for the 21st century. Children engage their senses through drama, writing, art, music and movement and games. During these experiences, they learn how to take different perspectives, collaborate with others and think critically, creatively and empathically.
We strongly believe in helping children develop essential skills that will take them way past their early years. Our proprietary Starbeam™ Framework encapsulates the skills necessary for the 21st century as identified by the World Economic Forum, such as critical thinking and problem-solving. Beyond that, we have a host of complementary programmes that are designed to nurture children holistically. We also offer a variety of enrichment programmes through quality partners to further our children’s strengths and interests, no matter how varied they may be.
Numeracy is one of the six domains in our Starbeam™ Framework in which children acquire knowledge, skills and dispositions in. Through our literature-based curriculum, children focus on the exploration and application of mathematical concepts in context to the stories we read. To amplify these lessons, our skill-based Math Programme solidifies Mathematical concepts in a progressive manner to ready our children for formal schooling.
A literature-based curriculum gives children a strong foundation in language and literacy from the early years. Through daily exposure to picturebooks, children begin developing their vocabulary, comprehension and early reading and writing skills from a young age.
Beyond building literacy skills, we want children to develop a love for reading and learning. By making stories a meaningful and enjoyable part of their everyday learning, children become familiar with books, develop curiosity and learn to engage with new ideas.
These experiences help build the literacy foundation and a positive attitude towards learning that children carry with them as they transition to primary school.
