Changi Airport passenger movements up 9.9% in Q1 as Asian traffic jumps

Bangkok was again the top market.

Passenger traffic at Singapore's Changi Airport rose 9.9% to 14.4 million in the first three months of the year, boosted by double-digit growth for Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East & Africa.

For the first quarter, Bangkok moved to the top of the cities list, accounting for over a million passenger movements. Aircraft movements rose 5.6% to 88,790, while airfreight movements registered an increase of 3.3%, totalling 450,440 tonnes.

Passenger movement rose 8.1% year-on-year to 4.90 million travellers in March. Traffic to and from Thailand, Malaysia and China registered double-digit increases for the third consecutive month in March, while all of Changi Airport’s top 10 country markets grew by at least 4%.

In March, aircraft movements were 4.6% higher at 30,130 landings and takeoffs, while cargo shipments increased 5.2% to reach 170,880 tonnes, compared to the same period last year.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
