Eight in ten rate cyber safety ‘good’ yet password reuse persists

A report from bolttech shows 84% of SG users rate safety as good despite poor cyber hygiene.

Singapore internet users show a gap between perceived and actual cyber practices, according to the Asia‑Pacific Cyber Safety Landscape 2026 report by bolttech on the Asia-Pacific Cyber Safety Landscape.

In Singapore, only 46% of internet users consistently adopt strong cyber hygiene, whilst 84% rate their online safety as “good” or “very good.”

The survey also found that 70% reuse passwords across multiple accounts, 61% share personal information online without verification, and 58% use the same device for personal and work activities.

Across 11 Asia‑Pacific markets, 85% of respondents rated their online safety highly, but only 44% consistently follow strong cyber practices.

89% reported encountering scams or cyber threats whilst 64% expected someone in their household to fall victim to cybercrime in the next 12 months.

The report highlighted concerns about AI-driven cybercrime with 92% of APAC respondents saying AI-powered scams will be harder to detect, citing phishing, deepfake fraud, and AI-powered malware as key threats.

Regarding cyber incident preparedness, 24% said they feel confident responding to a cyber incident, whilst 58% said they know the steps they should take in theory.

The study also found willingness to pay for protection solutions.

71% of APAC respondents indicated they would pay for cyber protection services, including monitoring, alerts, family-focused protection, and coverage for financial losses.

In Singapore specifically, 68% expressed willingness to pay for added protection.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
