Keppel Corp to co-develop green field data centre in Beijing for $292.0m

This marks the company’s sixth project in China’s data centre market.

Keppel Corporation, through its Data Centre Fund II LP (KDCF II), will be developing Huailai Data Centre in Greater Beijing, China into a greenfield data centre.

Huailai Data Centre will be Keppel's sixth project in China’s data centre market since entering it in 2020.

In a bourse filing, Keppel said it will jointly develop the asset with Heying, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tianjin Zhengxin Group Co.

"KDCF II will acquire a majority stake in Huailai Data Centre and jointly develop the property with Heying," the company announced.

The project development will cost approximately $292.0m (RMB 1.4b).

Huailai Data Centre sits on a 3.3 hectares (ha) land plot that forms part of a larger data centre campus spanning 29.7ha.

After its development, the data centre will have a gross floor area (GFA) of 678,807 sq ft, which can fit more than 5,700 high-density racks and will hold the China Data Centre Class A GB-standard equivalent specifications.

For the data centre to consume 50% less energy, Keppel said it will also be fitted with indirect evaporative cooling (IDEC) systems.

Huailai Data Centre will be fully developed by the end of Q1 2023.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
