Amogy to test ammonia-cracking technology in Singapore

The technology could sustainably power data centres across the country.

Amogy, an ammonia-to-power solutions provider, will pilot its ammonia cracking technology at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)’s Low-Carbon Technology Translational Testbed (LCT³) on Jurong Island in 2027.

The partnership, first announced in September 2025, marks the first phase of pilot testing at LCT³, testing and scaling emerging low-carbon technologies for Singapore’s decarbonisation.

With support from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the project was announced at the Singapore Industry Decarbonisation Forum (SIDF) on 23 October.

Under the agreement, Amogy will deploy its ammonia cracking module next year, designed to produce up to one tonne of hydrogen per day.

The firm will share its reformer and catalyst technologies and oversee project execution.

It will also be collaborating with A*STAR to develop lower-cost catalysts and make ammonia-based hydrogen production cheaper over time for broader commercial adoption.

The project will support the Sustainable Jurong Island Initiative to turn the island into a sustainable energy and chemicals park.

It will also help assess ammonia-to-hydrogen technology’s capability to power data centres with low-carbon energy, in accordance with Singapore’s second data centre call for applications.

This requires at least 50% of new capacity to be powered through eligible green energy sources such as ammonia and hydrogen.

“Our collaboration with Amogy and real-world testing at LCT³ aims to bridge the gap between promising research and industrial adoption, building confidence in their potential for wider deployment," said Professor Lim Keng Hui, assistant CEO of the Science & Engineering Research Council in A*STAR.

The development is also part of Amogy’s expansion in Singapore and drive commercial growth across Asia-Pacific. This is the firm’s first R&D centre outside the US.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
