Cost of living is top social concern for 65% of locals: report

About 68% flag food and transport affordability as a key national issue.

Cost of living emerged as the top concern amongst Singaporeans, with 65% identifying it as a major social issue, according to a Milieu study.

When asked about issues they face specifically, 68% cited the affordability of groceries, food, and transportation as a key national concern.

Job opportunities and employment ranked as another issue, cited by 43% of respondents.

By comparison, 11% pointed to the integrity and accountability of government as a key national issue.

Less than half, or 41%, said the country was moving in the right direction on issues that matter most to them.

The Milieu study surveyed 3,000 consumers across six Southeast Asian markets, including 500 respondents in Singapore. Fieldwork was conducted from 23 to 30 July.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
