Singapore cracks global top 10 tech city ranking

Stability and infrastructure draw deep talent pools, solidifying the city's top 10 status.

Singapore has solidified its position as a leading location for tech innovation, talent, and business, breaking into the top list of global tech cities.

According to the biennial Savills Tech Cities Index, Singapore rose three places to land 9th in the latest list. The city-state’s rise is boosted by its political and regulatory stability, world-class infrastructure, and strong business environment.

“The tech industry is undergoing major transformation due to AI. Despite the potential monumental advances being made, however, human capital remains tech’s most important asset, so city attractiveness matters to companies trying to recruit the best talent,” said Paul Tostevin, head of Savills World Research.

Other factors that helped Singapore and the other economies in the top 10 secure their spot are the diversity they offer, broad business bases, and deep talent pools.

“For investors, landlords and developers, a high-performing Tech City will see increasing demand for real estate in the form of more office space for tech occupiers, or housing that meets the needs of a highly skilled, mobile workforce,” Tostevin said.

Seoul also entered the top 10 in the latest index, climbing four places, supported by rising city wealth, increasing net migration, and expanded government support for AI, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotech.

Savills noted that both Singapore and Seoul share low office vacancy rates and limited supply, which have driven up rents.

Elsewhere in Asia, six Chinese cities rank in the top 30, with Shanghai (5th) and Beijing (6th) leading regional performance. China’s tech cities benefit from a vast domestic market and increasingly mature homegrown ecosystems, Savills said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
