ST Eng’g bags $175m contracts with LTA to modernise bus system

The upgrades will cover 5,800 public buses and will be completed by 2027.

ST Engineering has secured various contracts totalling $175m from Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) to modernise the technology of public buses, including their fare collection.

The upgrades will cover approximately 5,800 public buses, and rolled out progressively beginning Q2 2024 up to 2027.

The scope of upgrades cover the fleet management system, fare collection as well as  power and communications systems.

A new bus fleet management system (BFMS) will make use of cloud-based architecture to enhance centralised fleet monitoring and management of bus service operations throughout Singapore.

New fare collection equipment will also be installed, and will use the 5G network for faster fare transactions.

5G will also be used for the new bus transmitter system, and is expected to make data exchanges between buses and the backend systems faster.

The fare collection and fleet management application displays will als be combined into one screen.

New central junction boxes will also be installed on the buses to improve power and signal distribution.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
