Three in four Singaporean CEOs optimistic about 2021: PwC

The 34% of those surveyed are anticipating positive revenue for the year.

Three in four CEOs in Singapore are optimistic about economic growth in 2021, according to PwC’s 24th Annual Global CEO Survey.

This has been a leap from 6% in 2020.

“After going through the past year of crisis and significant stress on our economy and society, it is encouraging to see that CEOs in Singapore are becoming more confident about growth prospects. Over the past challenging year, CEOs have had to rethink and reconfigure their strategies and transformation plans, with many accelerating digitisation of their businesses,” said PwC executive chairman Yeoh Oon Jin.

Globally, CEOs' confidence in growth is up by 76% from 22% in 2020 and 42% in 2019, representing the highest level of optimism since 2012.

Meanwhile, 34% of business leaders in Singapore believe revenues will recover in 2021, an increase from 25% in 2020.

The survey also revealed different confidence levels from various industries globally. CEOs in the technology and telecommunications sectors show the highest levels of confidence at 45% and 43%, respectively.

Meanwhile, CEOs in the transportation and logistics (29%) and hospitality and leisure (27%) sectors are among the least confident about their ability to grow revenues over the next 12 month.

PwC’s 24th Annual Global CEO Survey polled 5,050 CEOs in 100 countries and territories in January and February 2021.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
